Vintage Japanese GLASS FISHING FLOAT.. Emerald Green, Bubbles & Surface Spindle (#38)
This float is approximately 11 inches in circumference (see note below regarding the circumference measurement)*. This is a Japanese fishing float that was actually used and has spent its life at sea. It has been picked out of hundreds of beachcombed floats to offer because of its unique qualities and characteristics. Its thick heavy glass contains impurities, inclusions and bubbles that are intrinsic to the Japanese manufacturing process. It is in good and sound condition with the normal wear one finds on fishing floats that have survived years in the ocean. The float is a beautiful moss green color. This float is unique because it has what is called a spindles on its surface. A spindle is where a piece of hot glass forms a swirl shaped thread on the surface of the float before it cools, leaving a swirl pattern or line on the surface of the float. It has a little spindle or raised thread of glass on one side (see photos). This float is a rare find because of its emerald green color, many bubbles and inclusions and its spindle that has formed on its surface.
