Vintage 13" In Circumference Japanese GLASS FISHING FLOAT.. Kanji Maker's Mark & Bubbles (#30)

This float is approximately 13" inches in circumference and about 4 1/2" in diameter. (See note below on float circumference measurement)*.
It is about the size of a large grapefruit and this size is sometimes referred to as a grapefruit float. It is made of hand blown glass. This is a Japanese fishing float was actually used and has spent much of its life at sea. It has been picked out of hundreds of beachcombed and Japanese fishing floats to offer because of its unique qualities and characteristics. Its thick heavy glass contains impurities, inclusions and bubbles that are intrinsic to the Japanese manufacturing process. It is in good and sound condition with the normal wear one finds on fishing floats that have survived years of use in the ocean. This float has thick glass with bubbles and is a beautiful sky blue color (see photos). It has a rare kanji maker's seal mark on the pontil (see photos). It also has what is called straw marks around sides on the outside of the glass (see photos). A straw mark is made from a piece or pieces of straw falling on the molten glass before it has hardened causing mark that looks like a tiny thread raising up on the glass. Every vintage float is different and this one has many beautiful unique features (see photos).
